Family Mental Health Service in Mosgiel is a free community mental health service for individuals of all ages and families experiencing mental health difficulties. Our philosophy is to work with people to assist them in their recovery to reach their full health potential.
Family Mental Health Service has a nearly 40 year association with the Mosgiel community. It was originally established in 1979, jointly by the Otago Health Board and Otago University Department of Education. The service receives around 400 new referrals each year.
We are contracted by the Southern District Health Board to offer a service for those persons presenting with moderate to severe mental health difficulties whose medical care can be predominantly managed by their general practitioner (GP) and would benefit with a psychiatric therapeutic intervention.
Clinicians use a strengths based approach in their practice with an emphasis on assisting the service user to identify and build resilience through recognising their strengths and abilities to take control of their life.
